WTF?!
At the predictable-down-to-the-minute GayVN awards, Raging Stallion AEBN won everything, including the lovely shoes worn by Mr. Mapa. Not that anyone expected a different outcome, but one note worth mentioning: Ricky "Stubby" Sinz as best top. Who knew 4 inches will get you an award in San Francisco!
And then there's Michael Lucas. Grabbing the microphone. Saying something stupid. Not letting it drop there. Stop me when I've said something new.
Brent Corrigan is not my type, and while I'm aware of who -- and why -- he is, all I can think of is the enormous ordeal he's been through. You have to admire him for admitting his mistake under oath and on the witness stand (for God sake)! What Lucas proposes, apparently a lifetime ban on Corrigan, is more than draconian and simply ridiculous on its face. What, exactly, do you expect him to go do, Michael? Bottom line, Corrigan has worked to rehabilitate his reputation, and it's unlikely everyone will forgive and forget; this will dog him the rest of his life.
However, Corrigan is not the criminal here; that's Brian Kocis. An essay on Kocis is for another time, but in the end, he did meet with some sense of justice, no? Let me be clear: I do not condone or imply that his murder was justified. To my point, we the People just spent approximately $112,000 prosecuting the twisted vigilantism this implies. My point is that had he not consorted with Corrigan, Kocis would likely be alive today. So in that sense, did Kocis not pay for his part in the criminal pornography he created with Corrigan?
The victims in the Corrigan/Cobra Video affair were many, from the distributor that changed hands (and there has to be some part of the financial loss Pacific Sun suffered as a result of the withdrawal of the illegal product attributable to the previous owner's motivation to sell), to the retailers who unwittingly sold the product, to the many, many consumers that relied on Kocis to do his job and verify that the subject was, in fact, legal. Notice the lack of Lucas fitting any of these descriptions?
This is all irrelevant in Lucas' opinion. Brent Corrigan committed a crime which resulted in his launch into a porn star beloved by many. Wow, that sounds familiar... or have we forgotten that prostitution is a crime in New York? Ok, low blow. Nevertheless, I don't believe that New York has the same exemption for porn stars from prostitution that California does, so you could say every time Lucas shoots a scene, he's comitting several crimes. And then there's his forays into foreign countries, in which he even arrogantly blogs about the fact that he's gotten away with something he acknowledges to be illegal in the country he's filming. We have motive, we have intent, we have acknowledgement that the deed is in fact a crime (by the criminal himself, in writing!), we have the planning for the crime, the commission of others in these crimes, and execution of the crimes themselves. Wow, there's photographic evidence of all these crimes, isn't there?
Pot, meet kettle. And shut the fuck up.
Now that said, I take it back. I can think of nothing better for Messrs. Lucas and Corrigan to do with their time. For Corrigan's sake, don't think of it as opportunity cost; think of it as an investment. Every hour you spend taunting Lucas is worth it, because every hour that Lucas spends pouting responding is an hour not spent making another of his insipid films. With a progeny spanning the sweet life to Farts!, there is more than enough of Lucas for a lifetime. Apparently so; Lucas' outrage did not prevent him from accepting the Lifetime Achievement acknowledgement of his body of work alongside not only Corrigan, but all those who have worked with him (and made a buck because Corrigan is who he is!).
To that end, the best course of action is to taunt Lucas as much as possible. Stop buying his product. If you don't like his porn, go out there and talk about why you don't like it. Write bad reviews on popular sites. Warn others of what they're supporting when they buy a Lucas product. Beware, however: Lucas gets bitch-slappy when confronted.
To bring this full circle, Lucas hysterically blogged of his disappointment with the laughter from the industry that he's "not the type to sit silently and listen to this hypocrisy" which begs the question... what were you doing at the GayVNs, then? Or has it escaped the botoxed-one that he was at an awards ceremony in which the sponsoring studio swept the field, as everyone who doesn't have rocks for brains knew would happen? Oh wait, I think I'm on to something...
